Enterprise AI reshaped around control

Enterprise artificial intelligence products are being rebuilt around control, with vendors steering companies into managed systems instead of open model pickers. (help.openai.com) (microsoft.com) OpenAI’s help center says ChatGPT retired GPT-4o, GPT-4.1, GPT-4.1 mini, OpenAI o4-mini, and GPT-5 Instant and Thinking on February 13, 2026, while leaving application programming interface access unchanged. ChatGPT Business, Enterprise, and Edu customers kept GPT-4o inside Custom GPTs until April 3, 2026, and then lost that access too. On March 9, 2026, the company announced Microsoft 365 E7, a bundle that combines Microsoft 365 E5, Microsoft 365 Copilot, Entra Suite, and Agent 365, with general availability set for May 1 at $99 per user. In the same announcement, Microsoft said Microsoft 365 Copilot would expand beyond OpenAI models to include Claude and other next-generation models. Microsoft’s Azure AI Foundry documentation says its router can choose among underlying large language models in real time to improve speed and cost while keeping quality comparable. Microsoft introduced Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat on January 15, 2025 as a free chat experience for commercial customers with pay-as-you-go agents, and its admin documentation says information technology teams now set billing policies in the Microsoft 365 admin center using Azure subscriptions and resource groups. Microsoft’s cloud adoption guidance says artificial intelligence platform governance uses policy controls to enforce security, compliance, and operational standards across an organization’s AI environment.
