Fintech Firm Launches Women's PM Internship

Fintech company Cowrywise has launched a one-month paid internship program specifically for women. The program offers hands-on experience in roles including Product Management, CX, and Legal/Compliance, with applications submitted via a Google Form.

The internship, timed for International Women's Day 2026, offers paid positions to emerging women professionals in Nigeria. The program will run for the month of April, from the 1st to the 30th, with both virtual and on-site options available. This initiative operates within a Nigerian fintech sector where women's participation is still developing. A National Bureau of Statistics report indicated that women hold less than 20% of tech jobs in the country. Globally, the disparity is also notable, with women representing only about 35% of the product management workforce. Access to capital is also a significant hurdle; a 2024 report from Moniepoint revealed that 58.9% of women-owned businesses in Nigeria face challenges in securing funding. Furthermore, women-led startups globally received only 2.3% of total venture capital investments in 2020. Cowrywise's program provides hands-on experience in product strategy, compliance, customer experience, and portfolio management. This aligns with a broader movement to increase female participation in the tech and finance industries, supported by organizations like She Code Africa and Product Hub Africa, which provide technical skills and resources to women. The program aims to provide a direct pathway into the industry, offering mentorship from senior professionals and potential future employment opportunities at Cowrywise. This addresses a critical need, as a survey of 93 Nigerian tech firms showed only six had a woman in a top management position. This initiative is part of a larger push for financial inclusion in Nigeria, where women are 20% less likely than men to have a formal bank account. Fintech companies are seen as key to closing this gap by providing digital financial services to marginalized populations.
