Navarrete Unifies Titles via TKO
Emanuel Navarrete claimed unified titles with an 11th-round TKO victory over Sugar Nunez on Feb 28. The card also featured quick knockouts including Lorenzo Parra over Elijah Pierce and Curmel Moton's TKO of Wilfredo Flores in just two rounds.
Emanuel "Vaquero" Navarrete's victory over Eduardo "Sugar" Nunez unified the WBO and IBF super featherweight titles, making him a unified champion for the first time in his career despite being a three-division world champion. The fight, held at the Desert Diamond Arena in Glendale, Arizona, was stopped in the 11th round due to severe damage to Nunez's right eye. This win came after a mixed run of results for Navarrete, including a loss and a no-contest in his previous four fights. Eduardo "Sugar" Nunez, who entered the ring with a formidable 93% knockout ratio, saw his 19-fight winning streak come to an end. The 28-year-old from Los Mochis, Mexico, had captured the IBF title in May 2025 by defeating Masanori Rikiishi in Japan and had made one successful defense. The unification bout was a clash of two of the top four ranked fighters in the 130-pound division. The night's biggest upset occurred when Lorenzo Parra scored a second-round knockout of the highly-ranked Elijah Pierce. Pierce entered the fight on a 12-fight winning streak and was ranked No. 2 by both the WBA and WBO. Parra, fighting just days after the passing of his father, trapped Pierce on the ropes and delivered a decisive flurry of punches. Nineteen-year-old prospect Curmel Moton, who is mentored by Floyd Mayweather, continued his undefeated run with a swift stoppage of Wilfredo Flores. The fight was halted by Flores' corner after the second round. Moton, who turned pro at 17, has been training at Mayweather's gym since he was around nine or ten years old and is considered a top prospect in the sport.
