Meta’s Instagram goes full-AI

Meta is rolling Instagram into an AI-first feed—personalized recommendations and AI curation are reshaping Reels and Stories visibility, and the company is testing a paid “Instagram Plus” tier that could gate features and analytics behind a subscription (markets.financialcontent.com) (ibtimes.com.au).

Meta said it deployed a new run-time AI model across Instagram Feed, Stories and Reels that lifted conversion rates by 3% in Q4 and helped drive a 12% increase in ads quality, according to its January 2026 AI performance blog. Instagram’s “Your Algorithm” tool, announced December 10, 2025, began rolling out in the U.S. for the Reels tab and lets users view and type topics to shape AI-powered Reels recommendations. Meta launched “Vibes,” an AI-generated short-video feed inside the Meta AI app on September 26, 2025, which allows AI-native clips to be remixed and shared to Instagram Reels and Stories. Meta began pilot testing a paid Instagram tier called “Instagram Plus” at the end of March 2026, running small tests in Mexico, Japan and the Philippines with local pricing shown in leaked screenshots (MX$39/month, ¥319/month, PHP65/month). Instagram Plus’s documented test features include anonymous Story viewing, Story rewatch counts, the ability to extend Stories to 48 hours, one weekly Story spotlight placement, unlimited custom Story audience lists, and a searchable Story viewer list. Meta’s pilot ties into a broader subscriptions push: its “Other” revenue category (which includes subscriptions) generated $801 million in Q4 2025, and analysts estimate small monthly plans could scale into billions of recurring revenue if adoption reaches low single-digit percentages of Instagram’s user base.
