Rodgau to Host Annual Easter Market

The town of Rodgau is holding its annual Easter Market today, March 1, 2026. The event features local vendors and festive activities, aiming to celebrate the upcoming holiday with residents and visitors.

The Rodgau Easter Market is a significant local event with a history rooted in community engagement, organized by the Gewerbeverein Rodgau (Rodgau Trade Association). This association, which originated from the Dudenhofen trade association founded in 1984, has a long tradition of creating year-round community events, including the Easter market, a summer festival, and an autumn festival. This year's market, held at the Bürgerhaus in the Nieder-Roden district, features over 40 exhibitors, with all stand spaces fully booked. The artisans and hobbyists will offer a wide array of handcrafted items, including crocheted and knitted goods, paintings, resin art, jewelry, sewn and felted products, and preserves. Materials used range from wool and wood to paper, glass, and metal. A central component of the event is the "Ostercafé," managed by the SOS Helferkreis. This volunteer group serves high-quality homemade cakes, savory soups, and sandwiches to raise funds. A portion of the exhibitor stand fees, along with all proceeds from the café, are donated to support various SOS Children's Villages. The market is officially opened by Mayor Max Breitenbach. Throughout the two-day event, local Rodgau clubs and associations present a diverse stage program that includes dance performances, singing, and rope skipping, offering them a platform to showcase their work to the community. The event is part of a broader tapestry of seasonal markets in Rodgau, which also includes a Spring Festival, a Wine Week on Puiseauxplatz, and a Pumpkin Market, highlighting the town's active community and cultural life. The Easter market taps into regional Hessian traditions surrounding the holiday, which celebrate the arrival of spring. Historically, Easter in this region involves customs like decorating eggs, baking special bread called "Gebildbrot," and lighting Easter fires to drive away winter spirits.
