Global Tech Firms Form Alliance
Fifteen technology companies from 10 countries across Africa, Asia, Europe, and North America announced the formation of the Trusted Tech Alliance. The coalition was launched during the Munich Security Conference with the stated goal of serving clients globally amid geopolitical divisions.
- The founding members of the alliance include prominent tech firms such as Anthropic, AWS, Google Cloud, Microsoft, Nokia, SAP, and Jio Platforms. - The alliance is built on five core principles: transparent corporate governance, operational transparency and secure development, robust supply chain security, support for an open digital ecosystem, and respect for the rule of law and data protection. - The announcement at the Munich Security Conference reflects the event's growing focus on the intersection of technology and international security, moving beyond traditional defense topics to include cyber risks and AI. - Several executives emphasized the goal of building trust regardless of a technology provider's country of origin, aiming to create verifiable standards that can be applied globally. - The formation of the alliance is a direct response to the increasing fragmentation of the technology landscape along geopolitical lines, particularly the rivalry between the US and China over technological supremacy. - The alliance spans the entire technology stack, with members representing sectors from connectivity and semiconductors to cloud infrastructure and AI. - This initiative aims to address the growing concerns of nations prioritizing "technological sovereignty" by creating a framework for trust that is not contingent on a provider's national allegiance. - Strive Masiyiwa, the founder of Cassava Technologies, is a founding member, representing a key technology provider from Africa in this global coalition.
