Laminate Flooring Market Projected to Reach $2.5B

The laminate flooring market is projected to reach $2.5 billion by 2031, according to a report from Mordor Intelligence. Renovation and replacement projects are expected to account for nearly 58% of demand in 2025. Innovations in water-resistant laminate are a key driver of its adoption in high-traffic areas.

The global laminate flooring market, valued at USD 1.67 billion in 2025, is projected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 6.98% from 2026 to 2031. This growth is largely fueled by rising urbanization in developing economies and a surge in home renovation projects following the pandemic. Key technological advancements center on moisture resistance, historically a major drawback of laminate. Innovations include water-repellent coatings like HydroSeal applied to plank edges and cores made of less absorbent, high-density fiberboard (HDF) composites, making the material viable for kitchens and bathrooms. The do-it-yourself (DIY) trend is a significant market driver, as laminate's click-lock installation systems reduce the need for professional labor. This aligns with the broader DIY home improvement market, which is projected to reach $1.29 trillion by 2031. Laminate's primary competitor is luxury vinyl plank (LVP), which is 100% synthetic and generally considered fully waterproof, giving it an advantage in high-moisture areas. While laminate's water resistance has improved, LVP often holds a higher resale value due to its superior durability against moisture. The Asia-Pacific region dominated the global market with a 43.2% revenue share in 2024, driven by new construction and urbanization. In contrast, growth in mature markets like North America and Europe is primarily sustained by the renovation of aging housing stock. Beyond water resistance, manufacturers are incorporating features like enhanced scratch resistance and antimicrobial finishes. Advancements in high-resolution printing technology also allow for more realistic wood and stone aesthetics, a key factor for consumers prioritizing both durability and design.
