Meta debuts Muse Spark
Meta released Muse Spark, its first major AI model in over a year from Meta Superintelligence Labs, and said the model powers Meta AI apps with multimodal reasoning and vision capabilities. Meta posted initial details and demo updates on its social channels. (x.com/hardwarezone/status/2042458150733799883)
Meta has introduced Muse Spark, a new artificial intelligence model that now powers the Meta AI app and website. (about.fb.com) Muse Spark is the first model from Meta Superintelligence Labs, the unit led by Chief AI Officer Alexandr Wang, who joined Meta in June 2025. Meta said it will expand the model to WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, Messenger and its artificial intelligence glasses in the coming weeks, and offer a private application programming interface preview to select partners. (meta.com) (about.fb.com) Artificial intelligence models work by predicting useful answers from patterns in training data, and multimodal models do that across text, images and voice instead of text alone. Meta said Muse Spark was built to handle both reasoning tasks and image understanding, including product comparisons and live camera-based queries. (about.fb.com) Meta said the model is “small and fast by design” and can launch multiple subagents in parallel, which means separate background processes can work on parts of one question at the same time. In Meta’s example, one agent drafts a Florida trip plan while others compare destinations and find child-friendly activities. (about.fb.com) The release marks a shift in Meta’s consumer artificial intelligence stack less than a year after the company put Llama 4 into the Meta AI app on April 29, 2025. Meta said Muse Spark came after a nine-month rebuild of its artificial intelligence stack inside Meta Superintelligence Labs. (about.fb.com 1) (about.fb.com 2) Meta has spent the past year reorganizing around artificial intelligence, including naming Wang as its first Chief AI Officer and framing “personal superintelligence” as a company goal in a January 12, 2026 post. Muse Spark is the first public model release tied directly to that reorganization. (meta.com) (about.fb.com) Outside Meta, the launch lands in a market where OpenAI, Google and Anthropic have pushed consumer chatbots toward models that can reason across images, tools and longer tasks. CNBC reported Meta is using Muse Spark to try to regain momentum after the weaker reception to its earlier Llama 4 rollout. (cnbc.com) Meta is not presenting Muse Spark as its biggest model. The company said it is an “early data point” in a broader Muse series and that larger models are already in development. (about.fb.com) For users, the immediate change is practical rather than abstract: the Meta AI app and meta.ai have already switched to Muse Spark, and the rest of Meta’s consumer products are next. The test for Meta now is whether that faster rollout translates into heavier use across the apps it already owns. (about.fb.com)
