Chinatown YMCA Run Takes Place in San Francisco

The annual Chinatown YMCA run was held this morning in San Francisco. The race, organized by the SF Chinese Chamber of Commerce, started at 7:15 AM and drew participants for a route through the city's historic Chinatown.

This year marks the 48th annual "Chinese New Year Run," a tradition in San Francisco's historic Chinatown. The event offers both a live, in-person 5K/10K race and a virtual option for global participants throughout the month of March. Proceeds from the run support crucial community services provided by the Chinatown YMCA. These include youth and teen programs, social services for low-income families, and financial aid to ensure accessibility to the YMCA's offerings. The 2026 race celebrates the Year of the Horse, and runners born in a Horse year will receive a special commemorative enamel pin. The course for the in-person event takes participants through the streets of Chinatown, starting on Grant Avenue and finishing on Kearny Street. The Chinatown YMCA has been a cornerstone of the community since its founding in 1911 by local church leaders. Initially a haven for boys to develop bicultural identities, it expanded to include girls by the 1950s and opened a new, modern facility in 2010.
