The "Urban Art. From its Origins to Banksy" exhibit at the Fundación Canal in Madrid explores the evolution of urban art, displaying over 60 original works. The exhibition, which runs from February 4 to May 3, 2026, includes pieces from Jean-Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring, and Banksy, among others. Curated by Patrizia Cattaneo Moresi, the show is structured chronologically, starting with graffiti's origins in Philadelphia and New York in the 1960s. It progresses through the increasing sophistication of techniques and messages to its current status in contemporary art. A key theme is the blurred line between creativity and illegality, questioning urban art's nature, its relationship with public space, and its dependence on social context. The exhibit also highlights Banksy's role in the global spread and media attention surrounding urban art.
