SDG&E gas bill credit

If you’re an SDG&E customer with natural gas service, expect a $32.58 credit on an upcoming gas bill — electricity credits will follow later this year. (sandiegouniontribune.com) That’s a small, immediate household cost cut you can count on when planning spring projects or budgeting for new appliances. (sandiegouniontribune.com)

San Diego Gas & Electric customers with home gas service are about to see a fixed credit, not a discount tied to how much gas they used. The amount is $32.58, and it is being applied automatically on April 2026 gas bills for eligible residential accounts. (sdgetoday.com) That money is coming from California’s Climate Credit program, which sends utility customers part of the proceeds from the state’s carbon market. In that system, power plants, fuel suppliers, and large industrial polluters have to buy allowances for the greenhouse gases they emit. (cpuc.ca.gov) California regulators built the credit to soften the cost of climate rules showing up in utility bills. The California Public Utilities Commission says the credit is meant to offset some cap-and-trade costs while still leaving customers an incentive to conserve energy. (cpuc.ca.gov) For San Diego Gas & Electric customers, the gas piece is arriving first. The utility says the separate electric Climate Credit for 2026 is set at $49.36 and is planned to be delivered twice later this year. (sdgetoday.com) That timing is different from many earlier years, when residential electric customers usually saw credits in April and October. San Diego Gas & Electric says a California Public Utilities Commission proposed decision would move the 2026 electric residential credit to August and September for investor-owned utilities, with a commission vote scheduled for April 30, 2026. (sdge.com) The credit is per household account, so customers do not need to file a form, call customer service, or hit a spending threshold. San Diego Gas & Electric says the April gas credit is automatic for residential customers, including customers in the California Alternate Rates for Energy discount program. (sdge.com) This is also a rare line on a utility bill that moves in the opposite direction of recent rate pressure. San Diego Gas & Electric’s own 2026 gas rate notice says the same April period includes the $32.58 climate credit even as other parts of gas charges, including commodity costs and public purpose surcharges, can move separately. (sdge.com) The program is not new, even if the monthly timing changes. San Diego Gas & Electric says households have been receiving California Climate Credits since 2014, and one utility bill insert says cumulative statewide benefits have topped $12.9 billion. (sdge.com) So the practical thing to watch for is simple: an April 2026 gas bill with a one-time $32.58 credit already on it, followed by separate electric credits later in 2026 if the current state schedule holds. If you only have electric service and no natural gas service on your account, this April gas credit would not be the one that shows up for you. (sdgetoday.com)
