## Angry Chickz Heats Up Fremont's Culinary Scene The Fremont outpost of Angry Chickz is part of a significant and rapid expansion for the brand, which began in a modest 900-square-foot storefront in East Hollywood in 2018. Founder David Mkhitaryan, after falling in love with Nashville-style hot chicken, spent a year perfecting his own recipe before launching the chain. The company has since grown to include numerous locations across California, as well as in Arizona and Nevada. Fremont joins a growing roster of Bay Area locations for the hot chicken chain, including San Jose, Brentwood, Concord, Vallejo, and Vacaville. The brand has stated its intention to continue expanding in the region, with potential future restaurants in San Francisco and Oakland. The menu's main attraction is its varying levels of spice, which range from "Country" (no heat) to the fiery "Angry," which requires a signed waiver to consume. This Nashville-style hot chicken is served in several forms, most popularly as sliders with coleslaw and pickles, or as tenders with bread and fries. The Nashville hot chicken trend itself has roots stretching back to the 1930s in Nashville, Tennessee. The original recipe is attributed to the family of Thornton Prince, who created it by accident. The dish's popularity has surged in recent years, leading to the rise of numerous specialty chains like Angry Chickz and competitors such as Dave's Hot Chicken and World Famous Hotboys, all of which are also establishing a presence in the Bay Area.
