Fremont is turning its Downtown Event Center into a one-day arts hub on Sunday, April 26, with a pop-up market, makerspace activities and workshops. (tricityvoice.com) The main public event runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Downtown Event Center and Plaza, 3500 Capitol Ave., according to both the City of Fremont calendar and Fremont Creates. (fremont.gov, fremontcreates.com) Tri-City Voice reported the April 26 program will include more than 20 local artists selling directly to the public, a returning makerspace for kids of all ages, two adult workshops for ages 15 and up, live jazz and an outdoor performance by Wadaiko Newark taiko drummers. (tricityvoice.com) The event is part of Fremont’s April is Arts, Culture and Creativity Month, a citywide push that Fremont Creates says wraps up with the April 26 market. Earlier coverage in Tri-City Voice described the pop-up and makerspace as part of a monthlong lineup meant to spotlight local artists and creative groups. (fremontcreates.com, tricityvoice.com) Fremont Creates is a local arts initiative tied to the Fremont Cultural Arts Council, which says the program promotes local artists and cultural participation through events and arts support. That gives the April 26 gathering a second purpose beyond shopping: it also serves as a public showcase for Fremont-based makers. (fremontculturalartscouncil.org, fremontcreates.com) The setting matters too. The City of Fremont describes the Downtown Event Center and Plaza as a city facility near dining, shopping and Bay Area Rapid Transit, with indoor rooms and an outdoor plaza that can host trade shows, receptions and community events. (fremont.gov, fremont.gov) This year’s market is also new. Fremont Creates calls the Artists’ Pop-Up Market a new addition for 2026, while a separate registration page shows participating artists were asked to submit a $50 deposit that would be returned after the event if requirements were met. (fremontcreates.com, fremontcreates.com) The result is a compact downtown event built around buying art, making art and watching it happen in real time — all in a four-hour window on April 26.
