OpenAI Acquires Promptfoo for AI Security
OpenAI acquired Promptfoo, adding enterprise-grade AI agent security to its offerings, including tools to prevent jailbreaks and data leaks.
Promptfoo, founded in 2024, offers tools to evaluate AI prompts and models, addressing risks like prompt injection, data leakage, and jailbreak attacks. Their framework integrates with development tools and CI/CD pipelines for local testing and simulations. OpenAI plans to integrate Promptfoo's technology into its Frontier platform for building and operating AI coworkers. This will add automated security testing and red-teaming capabilities, along with security integration into development workflows. Promptfoo's tools are already used by over 25% of Fortune 500 companies. The platform has raised over $23 million in funding and was valued at $86 million after a Series A funding round in July 2025. The acquisition highlights the increasing importance of AI security as enterprises deploy AI agents. OpenAI aims to provide systematic ways to test AI agent behavior, detect risks, and maintain records for oversight.
