Inter-Island Cargo Service Launches
A new daily inter-island cargo service, MV Blue Wave Harmony, has launched, offering more frequent and reliable regional shipping. This upgrade could enable a more dynamic, just-in-time inventory approach across Sandals properties—lowering on-hand stocks and improving cash flow.
The MV Blue Wave Harmony, which replaced the Cabo Star, can carry approximately 125 freight units, a notable increase from the Cabo Star's 90. The new vessel also offers improved passenger amenities, including 73 cabins and a 142-seat restaurant. The Blue Wave Harmony's arrival in Trinidad and Tobago on January 22, 2026, was part of a government strategy to revitalize the inter-island ferry service. However, just days after arriving, the vessel sustained damage during berthing maneuvers in Tobago. A prior inspection in April 2024 by the United States Coast Guard in San Juan, Puerto Rico, resulted in the vessel being detained for 17 days due to safety concerns. Sandals Resorts sources an average of 56% of its produce from local Caribbean farmers and 59% of its seafood locally, supporting regional businesses. The company has also been recognized for its sustainability efforts, including reducing single-use plastics. Sophia McKenzie is the Group Manager of the Procurement Division at Sandals Resorts International, and she leads a team of over 60 to manage the supply chain activities for all Sandals and Beaches resorts across the Caribbean.
