STEAM expos and contests expand

Regional STEAM activity is scaling: an Alexandria Area High School STEAM Expo is scheduled for March 26, SCC is hosting a STEAM Day for eighth graders, and Stellantis expanded its 2026 'Drive for Design' contest. ( )

Alexandria’s STEAM Expo is using multiple campus spaces — the gymnasium, commons, learning labs and the performing arts center appear on the event map in the official brochure. (alexschools.org) Event time is listed as 4:30–7:00 p.m. CDT on March 26, and the listing describes the Expo as a free, family-friendly evening of hands-on learning. (allevents.in) Somerset Community College’s March 6 STEAM Day brought 81 eighth-grade students to campus for station-based, hands-on sessions taught by SCC instructors and current college students. (somerset.kctcs.edu) Session topics at SCC included a projectile-motion demo called “Monkey Hunter” using an air cannon and rubber balls, a chemistry station where students made gel fuel from eggshells, vinegar and ethyl alcohol, a cosmetology lab on hair-color science, an “Eyes on Gooey Science” dissection of cow eyeballs, statistical games called “What is Normal?,” and a laparoscopic-surgery simulation using a loofah. (somerset.kctcs.edu) Participating schools at SCC’s event were named specifically as Clinton, Cumberland, Lincoln, McCreary, Meece, Northern Middle, Russell, Somerset Christian, Southern Middle and Wayne, and SCC posted a full photo album documenting the activities. (somerset.kctcs.edu) Stellantis’ March 19, 2026 announcement expands Drive for Design with a new Drive for Design Junior track open to U.S. students and split into kindergarten–3rd, 4th–6th and 7th–9th grade cohorts under the 2026 theme “Design the Future of Fast.” (prnewswire.com) The Stellantis release notes entrants in Drive for Design Junior will follow the same brief and submission guidelines as the traditional high-school contest, with one winner selected per junior age group and Mark Trostle, vice president of Ram Truck, Mopar and SRT exterior design, continuing to lead the program.
