Milan Apartment Showcases Italian Design Excellence
A once "poky" two-bedroom Milan flat has been transformed into a graceful, harmonious space that exemplifies Italian design excellence. The renovation demonstrates how thoughtful layout changes, material choices, and styling can turn modest homes into showcases of comfort and sophistication. The project highlights key principles of maximizing space while maintaining elegant proportions.
- The architectural firm behind the renovation is the Milan-based studio, Hometta. - To create a more spacious and brighter entryway, the designers removed a section of the corridor wall and replaced it with a custom-made, full-height shelving unit that is open on both sides. - A key material used throughout the apartment is smoked oak, which was chosen for the flooring and custom joinery to create a warm and cohesive feel. - The firm collaborated with the lighting specialists Viabizzuno to create a custom lighting system that is integrated into the architecture of the apartment. - The color palette is deliberately muted, with shades of beige, grey, and white, to create a tranquil atmosphere and serve as a backdrop for the owners' art collection. - In the living room, a custom-designed low bench made of travertine runs the length of one wall, serving as both seating and storage. - The kitchen features a prominent island with a countertop and backsplash made from Ceppo di Gré, a distinctive grey Italian stone. - One of the space-saving solutions implemented was the creation of a "service block" that contains the two bathrooms and a laundry area, concealed behind flush, handleless doors.
