New Model 'Pai' Targets Narrative Video Generation

Utopai has launched Pai, a new long-form video generation model. Unlike competitors focused on short, disconnected clips, Pai emphasizes narrative continuity and is designed specifically for creating animated shorts. The launch signals a new direction in generative video, moving from simple clips to coherent storytelling.

Utopai's 'Pai' model is engineered for "Directed Intelligence," utilizing a 3D-first approach to maintain spatial coherence and narrative intent. This system is designed to move beyond generating disconnected clips by using a script, character sheets, and environmental descriptions as foundational blueprints for video creation. The model can produce cinematic sequences up to 60 seconds long, a significant step towards long-form content generation. The company behind Pai, Utopai Studios, rebranded from Cybever in August 2025 and pivoted from a 3D content creation platform to a full-fledged AI-driven film and television studio. Founded in 2022 by CEO Cecilia Shen and CTO Jie Yang, the company has leveraged its background in procedural content generation for the gaming industry to inform its video generation technology. Pai's architecture is built to ensure character and environmental consistency across multiple shots, a key differentiator from models focused on single-clip generation. The workflow allows creators to establish a character's visual identity that remains persistent throughout a narrative sequence. This is achieved through a process that emphasizes story-level creative control rather than iterative prompting for individual outputs. Utopai Studios is actively integrating its technology with traditional Hollywood production pipelines. The company has a slate of projects, including the historical epic "Cortés," and has made strategic acquisitions like the Seoul-based production house Alquimista Media to expand its access to international intellectual property. This positions Utopai not just as a tech provider, but as a content producer. The model includes features aimed at professional workflows, such as safeguards against generating content based on copyrighted IP and the likeness of public figures. Pai also incorporates tools for creator protection, including a "Global Infringement Sentinel" and provenance tags to ensure clear authorship. This focus on narrative and creator control positions Pai in a distinct niche within the competitive AI video generation landscape, which includes models like Google's Veo, OpenAI's Sora, and Runway's Gen-4. While competitors are advancing in clip length and visual fidelity, Pai's value proposition is its structured, director-led workflow for coherent storytelling.
