Commotion Launches Enterprise AI Operating System

The company Commotion has launched an Enterprise AI Operating System powered by NVIDIA's Nemotron open models. The platform is designed to unify context, orchestration, and execution for "AI Workers" that can autonomously complete business tasks. The system also includes Voice AI to enable natural, low-latency, speech-to-speech interactions.

- Commotion is a startup backed by Tata Communications, which acquired a 51% stake in the company in December 2025 for $25.5 million. The goal of the acquisition was to integrate Commotion's AI orchestration capabilities into Tata's digital services, particularly their Kaleyra customer interaction suite. - The system's "AI Workers" are designed to move beyond simple automation (RPA) by planning, reasoning, and executing complex workflows across different business systems. This is intended to address operational challenges where employees spend significant time on "work about work," such as chasing information and managing handoffs between hundreds of different applications. - NVIDIA's Nemotron models are open-source and were developed with a focus on efficiency for "agentic AI" applications. They utilize a Mixture-of-Experts (MoE) architecture, which allows only a fraction of the model's parameters to be active at any given time, increasing speed and reducing computational cost. - The platform's Voice AI component uses NVIDIA's Riva library to achieve low-latency, speech-to-speech interactions, aiming for a response time under 250 milliseconds. Commotion's proprietary model avoids traditional pipelines (ASR to LLM to TTS) to create more natural, real-time conversations that can interpret emotional cues. - Early deployments of the Commotion OS have shown measurable results, with a global telecom provider reporting autonomous resolution for over 40% of its operational issues and a 35% reduction in resolution times. An international airline also anticipates that the system will manage 30% of its inbound calls within the first year. - A key feature of the operating system is a "Context Engineering Layer" that maps and unifies data from across an enterprise. This is designed to solve the problem of disconnected AI tools and data silos, which often prevent AI from moving beyond experimental phases into core business operations. - The collaboration is part of a broader push for AI adoption in India, supported by government initiatives and investment in computing infrastructure. NVIDIA is partnering with Indian cloud providers and venture capital firms to support startups building AI solutions. - Commotion was founded in 2022 and maintains a remote team with its headquarters in Los Angeles, California. The leadership team includes Co-Founder and CEO Murali Swaminathan, Co-Founder and President Elizabeth Closmore, and CTO Vasant Srinivasan.
