Patrick Kane Sets US Record
Patrick Kane was celebrated as the all-time points leader among U.S.-born players, with the official NHL post hitting 5K+ likes. Meanwhile, Artemi Panarin scored his first goal for the Kings in a highlight video on ESPN. Nicolas Roy was also traded to the Colorado Avalanche, evoking Patrick Roy nostalgia.
Patrick Kane secured his 1,375th career point, surpassing Mike Modano (1,374) to become the all-time points leader among U.S.-born players in the NHL. The record-breaking point came from an assist on a Ben Chiarot goal during a game against the Washington Capitals. Kane, a Buffalo native, was the first overall draft pick in 2007 by the Chicago Blackhawks. With the Blackhawks, Kane won three Stanley Cups (2010, 2013, 2015) and numerous individual awards, including the Hart Memorial Trophy as league MVP in 2016. He is the first American-born player to win the Art Ross Trophy as the league's leading scorer. Artemi Panarin's first goal as a member of the Los Angeles Kings came in a 5-3 victory over the New York Islanders. The goal, assisted by captain Anze Kopitar, was scored just 3:17 into the first period. The win marked the first for interim head coach D.J. Smith. The Colorado Avalanche acquired center Nicolas Roy from the Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for a conditional first-round draft pick in 2027 and a conditional fifth-round pick in 2026. Roy, a member of the 2023 Stanley Cup champion Vegas Golden Knights, provides defensive strength and depth for the Avalanche. Although he shares a last name with the Avalanche legend Patrick Roy, the two are not related.
