Rapids Blank Timbers in Home Opener
The Colorado Rapids rebounded from a poor start to the season with a 2-0 shutout victory against the Portland Timbers. The team's new offseason acquisitions reportedly made an immediate impact in their home opener.
The victory at Dick's Sporting Goods Park offered a stark contrast to the Rapids' season opener, a 2-0 loss on the road to the Seattle Sounders just a week prior. The club is looking to build on a 2025 season where they were just one win away from a playoff berth. Two of the team's key offseason additions, midfielder Hamzat Ojediran and winger Dante Sealy, were instrumental in the win. Ojediran, a defensive midfielder acquired from French club FC Lens for a reported $3 million, helped solidify the center of the pitch. Sealy, who joined from CF Montréal, brought a new dynamic to the Rapids' attack. The club also saw the return of Miguel Navarro, who was re-acquired on loan from Talleres in Argentina. He is expected to strengthen the left-back position for the Rapids. Looking ahead, the Rapids will aim to continue their winning ways at home as they are set to host the LA Galaxy on March 7th. Following that, the team will travel to New York City FC for a match on March 14th.
