Robo.ai Secures Major Order for Embodied AI Data

Startup Robo.ai has secured a major order to supply data for training embodied AI models. The deal underscores the intense demand for large, high-quality datasets required to train robots for operation in complex, real-world environments. This demand is creating new business models focused specifically on data collection and curation for robotics.

- The order is for 30,000 hours of "Valid Data Duration" to be delivered over 12 months to U.S.-based DaBoss.AI, a Silicon Valley data-as-a-service provider. Revenue from the deal will be recognized in the 2026 fiscal year. - The dataset is multi-modal, designed to give robots a more holistic understanding of the physical world by combining several types of raw sensor data: RGB-D for vision with depth, 6-DoF motion trajectories for movement, and force/tactile feedback for interaction. - This data is specifically for training "Level 4 and above" embodied AI models. Level 4 autonomy signifies that a robot can operate and handle most edge cases independently within a specific environment without the need for immediate human supervision, a key threshold for deploying robots at scale in real-world settings. - The customer, DaBoss.AI, provides "physical data compute" as an elastic cloud service, allowing AI developers to acquire high-fidelity physical data without the high cost and risk of building their own data-gathering hardware and teams. - This deal is the first major commercialization of Robo.ai's "Embodied AI Data Port" strategy, which operates through a new joint venture with DaBoss.AI located in Dubai. Robo.ai holds a 51% controlling stake in the venture, which aims to establish Dubai as a global hub for compliant, high-quality robotics data. - The transaction highlights a growing industry trend of data acquisition as a service, where specialized companies focus on collecting and curating massive, high-quality datasets needed to train foundation models for robotics. - The overall embodied AI market was valued at approximately $3.02 billion in 2024 and is projected to grow significantly, with some forecasts predicting it will reach over $23 billion by 2030, indicating intense demand for the type of data Robo.ai provides. One market analysis estimates the potential value of data for the entire embodied AI sector could eventually exceed $10 trillion.
