OpenAI Closes Record $110B Round

OpenAI just raised a record-shattering $110 billion in private capital, boosting its valuation to $730 billion. The round was led by Amazon, Nvidia, and SoftBank. As part of the deal, Amazon Web Services will become the exclusive third-party cloud provider for OpenAI's most advanced "Frontier" models in a major strategic partnership.

This funding round is the largest in startup history, eclipsing OpenAI's own previous record of a $40 billion raise in April 2025 which at the time valued the company at $300 billion. The new capital infusion brings OpenAI's valuation to a pre-money figure of $730 billion. The deal with Amazon Web Services (AWS) involves more than just capital; OpenAI will utilize 2 gigawatts of computing capacity from Amazon's proprietary Trainium chips. This partnership will also see the co-development of a "Stateful Runtime Environment" for AI agents, which will be available to developers through Amazon Bedrock. Despite the new AWS partnership for its "Frontier" models, OpenAI and Microsoft issued a joint statement reaffirming their existing relationship. Microsoft Azure remains the exclusive cloud provider for OpenAI's stateless APIs, and Microsoft retains its exclusive license to OpenAI's intellectual property across its models and products. Nvidia's $30 billion investment is coupled with an expanded collaboration to provide significant computing power for training and inference. OpenAI will gain access to 3 gigawatts of dedicated inference capacity and 2 gigawatts for training on Nvidia's upcoming "Vera Rubin" systems. SoftBank's $30 billion contribution aligns with its broader strategy of heavy investment in AI infrastructure. The Japanese conglomerate has also been involved with OpenAI in the "Stargate Project," a joint venture with Oracle and MGX aimed at building a massive AI infrastructure system. This historic funding round significantly outpaces those of competitors. For comparison, rival AI company Anthropic raised $30 billion at a $380 billion valuation in February 2026. The new capital is expected to fuel OpenAI's expansion of its infrastructure to meet surging demand, with ChatGPT reportedly having over 900 million weekly active users.
