American Airlines’ four new Europe routes are now moving from announcement to operation. The carrier said on May 21 that it launched nonstop service from Philadelphia to Budapest and Prague, and from Dallas-Fort Worth to Athens and Zurich, adding two new destinations — Budapest and Prague — to its global network. American said the inaugural flights departed on the first day of its summer season, when the airline expects record travel demand. The new services were first outlined in an Aug. 7, 2025 network announcement for summer 2026. At that time, American said it would add six international routes for the season, including the four Europe flights now in service, and begin selling tickets on Aug. 11, 2025. The airline tied the expansion to continued demand for Europe travel and said customers had told it Europe remained a preferred summer destination. ### Which cities got the new nonstop flights? Philadelphia International Airport gained two of the new flights: daily seasonal service to Budapest and Prague. American said both routes operate with Boeing 787-8 aircraft and make Philadelphia a larger trans-Atlantic gateway for the airline. Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport gained the other two: new service to Athens and Zurich. American said those flights operate with a mix of Boeing 777-300ER and Boeing 777-200ER aircraft, giving the carrier additional long-haul service from its largest hub. ### When were these routes first announced? American announced the summer 2026 expansion on Aug. 7, 2025 in a newsroom post titled “Six For ’26.” In that release, the airline said Philadelphia-Budapest, Philadelphia-Prague, Dallas-Fort Worth-Athens and Dallas-Fort Worth-Zurich would all start on May 21, 2026. The August announcement also said American would be the only carrier offering nonstop service from the United States to Budapest. Brian Znotins, American’s senior vice president of network and schedule planning, said then that customers “continue to tell us that Europe is where they want to go each summer.” ### Why is Philadelphia central to this rollout? Philadelphia was described by American as its trans-Atlantic gateway in the May 21 launch announcement. The airline said summer 2026 is the first peak travel period using a redesigned Philadelphia schedule that expands the hub from six to seven daily “banks,” or coordinated arrival and departure waves. Cesar Marchese, American’s vice president of Philadelphia operations, said the changes were intended to support smoother connections and a heavier summer schedule. American said the Philadelphia hub now offers nonstop service to more than 120 destinations worldwide, including 19 across the Atlantic. ### What does Dallas-Fort Worth add to the Europe network? Dallas-Fort Worth gives American new nonstop links from Texas to Athens and Zurich. In its May 21 statement, the airline said the routes reinforce international connections at its largest hub and fit into a redesigned DFW schedule built to improve flow and reliability. American had previously said in a separate May operations update that DFW’s new 13-bank schedule had reduced misconnects and gate changes. That same update listed Athens and Zurich among the carrier’s new long-haul summer routes. ### How large is American’s Europe schedule now? American said on May 21 that the new flights strengthen a European network with as many as 70 daily flights from the United States. The carrier also said Philadelphia alone will serve 19 trans-Atlantic destinations in 2026. The airline’s route pages on aa.com show the new Europe services as part of its summer 2026 offering. American’s booking materials continue to list Philadelphia-Budapest and Philadelphia-Prague among the new routes available for travelers planning 2026 trips.
