BMW's iX3 EV: Heritage Reborn?

BMW's new iX3 electric SUV boasts a 500-mile range and channels classic styling, signaling a brand pivot to its roots. It's the first of 40 new models on the “New Class” platform by 2027.

The iX3 is the first of BMW's "Neue Klasse" (New Class), echoing the 1960s models that revitalized the brand. This signals BMW's full commitment to an all-electric platform. The "Neue Klasse" iX3 boasts sixth-generation BMW eDrive technology, potentially delivering up to 500 miles of range and a peak charging rate of 400 kW. This new tech includes highly efficient electric motors, new high-voltage batteries, and 800V technology. The interior includes a large 17.9-inch central touchscreen and a slim display spanning the windshield's lower section, offering a futuristic feel. BMW's iDrive rotary controller is replaced by a responsive touchscreen. The iX3 50 xDrive features two electric motors producing a combined 469 hp and 475 lb-ft of torque. It accelerates from 0 to 62 mph in 4.9 seconds, reaching a top speed of 130 mph. BMW plans to release up to 40 new models by the end of 2027. The new platform will underpin at least six new EVs by 2028, including an electric 3 Series, called the i3.
