League City Funds Police Facility Design
The League City Council has approved the allocation of $240,000 for the initial design phase of a new police training facility. The funds will be used for the project's initial planning and design stages.
- The professional services agreement for the design, bid, and construction phases of the "Police Department Multi-Function Training Facility Project (PD2601)" was awarded to Quorum Architects, Inc. for an amount not to exceed $239,910. - Funding for the new facility is part of the city's approved Fiscal Year 2026 budget, which includes $330 million for capital improvement projects. - This project is highlighted as a key initiative in the FY2026 budget, alongside the renovation of the Walker Street Municipal Pool and the purchase of streetlights from Texas-New Mexico Power. - The current Public Safety Building, which has been operational since 2014, contains some existing training spaces, including an 80-person classroom, a gym, and a defensive tactics room. - The FY2026 budget also provides for 9.5 new city positions, with 5.5 dedicated to emergency services, including the creation of a new special investigative unit within the police department. - League City police officers currently surpass the state's mandated training hours, with most completing over 80 hours every two years, which is double the requirement set by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE).
