Kohli Chasing 100th International Century
Virat Kohli is being hyped as potentially scripting his 100th international century with fans calling him the "Cricket God" amid Team India's upcoming 5-match ODI series in New Zealand (expanded from 3 matches). This comes after Australia completed a dominant 409-run total to seal a 3-0 ODI series whitewash over India, putting extra pressure on Kohli to bounce back.
The chase for 100 international centuries, a record once thought untouchable, puts Virat Kohli 15 away from Sachin Tendulkar's monumental milestone. Tendulkar, the only cricketer to achieve this feat, reached his 100th century on March 16, 2012, against Bangladesh in the Asia Cup. This historic moment was the culmination of a career that saw him amass 51 centuries in Tests and 49 in ODIs. Kohli's pursuit continues with 85 international centuries to his name, comprising 54 in One Day Internationals (ODIs), 30 in Tests, and one in T20Is. He already holds the record for the most centuries in ODIs, having surpassed Tendulkar's 49. The upcoming ODI series against New Zealand will be played in India, not New Zealand as initially suggested. The series is scheduled for three matches, starting on January 11, 2026, in Vadodara, followed by matches in Rajkot and Indore. There have been discussions about a separate, expanded five-match ODI series when India tours New Zealand later in October-November 2026, but this is yet to be officially confirmed. Contrary to the suggestion of a recent 3-0 whitewash by Australia's men's team, it was the Indian women's team that recently lost their ODI series to Australia 3-0. The men's team's most recent ODI series against Australia saw them lose 2-1. In that series, Kohli registered scores of 0 and 0 in the first two matches before scoring a half-century in the final game. Kohli has a formidable record against New Zealand in ODIs, having scored seven centuries against them. This is the most by any batsman against the Black Caps in this format. Six of these centuries have been scored on Indian soil, where he boasts an impressive average of nearly 80 against them.
