Messi Leads Miami Comeback Victory
Lionel Messi scored twice to lead Inter Miami CF to a thrilling 4-2 comeback victory over Orlando City after trailing in the first half. The goals kept Miami's season on track and once again proved Messi's leadership decisive in MLS action.
This was Inter Miami's first victory of the 2026 MLS season, coming after a 3-0 season-opening loss to Los Angeles FC. The win was also significant as it marked the first time Inter Miami has ever beaten Orlando City at their home stadium. The comeback was sparked by a halftime substitution. Coach Javier Mascherano brought on Mateo Silvetti, who scored Miami's first goal just four minutes into the second half with a long-range strike. This was Silvetti's first career goal for the club. Orlando City had taken a commanding 2-0 lead in the first half with goals from Marco Pasalic and Martin Ojeda just six minutes apart. Despite holding only 39% of the possession, Orlando's early efficiency put the defending MLS Cup champions on the back foot. Midfielder Telasco Segovia was a key playmaker, scoring the go-ahead goal in the 85th minute and providing two assists in the match. Messi's final goal, a sublime free-kick in the 90th minute, sealed the 4-2 victory. The match grew heated, with Orlando's Colin Guske receiving a red card in the 88th minute after a second yellow for a foul on Messi. With the win, Messi has now scored eight goals in five career matches against Orlando City. Following the dramatic Florida Derby win, Inter Miami is scheduled to visit the White House before their next match against D.C. United.
