Brazil earns 3‑star firsts

At the April 13 Michelin ceremony, São Paulo restaurants Evvai and Tuju each received three Michelin stars — the first time any Latin American restaurants have reached Michelin’s top tier. ( ) The award credits chefs Luiz Filipe Souza (Evvai) and Ivan Ralston (Tuju), and brings Brazil’s total to 24 Michelin‑starred restaurants. ( )

Brazil now has its first three-star Michelin restaurants: Evvai and Tuju in São Paulo reached the guide’s top tier on April 13. (michelin.com) Michelin announced the awards at the Copacabana Palace in Rio de Janeiro during the 2026 Rio de Janeiro & São Paulo ceremony. The guide credited chefs Luiz Filipe Souza of Evvai and Ivan Ralston of Tuju. (guide.michelin.com) The two promotions made Brazil the first country in Latin America with restaurants at Michelin’s three-star level. Michelin’s own release said no restaurant in the region had previously reached that rank. (michelin.com) Michelin stars are the guide’s restaurant ratings, with one star for a very good restaurant, two for cooking worth a detour, and three for cuisine worth a special journey. In Brazil, the guide rates only Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. (guide.michelin.com) The result closes an 11-year gap between Michelin’s arrival in Brazil and the first local three-star awards. ELLE Brasil reported that the guide entered the country in 2015, and the 2026 ceremony was the first to place Brazil in the three-star group. (elle.com.br) The broader 2026 list shows how concentrated Michelin’s Brazil coverage still is. Michelin’s Brazil selection page lists 24 starred restaurants in total, all in São Paulo or Rio de Janeiro. (guide.michelin.com) Below the new top tier, D.O.M., Lasai and Oro kept two stars, while Madame Olympe in Rio de Janeiro won its first star in 2026. Brazilian coverage of the ceremony reported that as the only new one-star addition this year. (uol.com.br) Michelin said its inspectors found 12 new additions across Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo over the past year, alongside the new three-star awards. For Brazil’s fine-dining scene, the headline on April 13 was simple: São Paulo now has two restaurants Michelin says are worth the trip. (guide.michelin.com)
