Hyundai's MobED unveiled

Hyundai showcased its award‑winning MobED modular robot platform, which the company says enables shake‑free autonomous transport and integrates AI for industrial mobility. Social coverage presented the system as a modular approach to on‑site material movement. (x.com)

A mobile robot platform is the powered base under a machine, like a flat cart that can steer itself while carrying tools, sensors, or cargo. Hyundai Motor Group says its MobED platform reached a production-ready stage when it was unveiled at the International Robot Exhibition 2025 in Tokyo on December 3, 2025. (hyundaimotorgroup.com) Hyundai’s Robotics LAB first showed MobED as a concept at Consumer Electronics Show 2022, then brought a mass-produced version to iREX 2025. The company says MobED stands for Mobile Eccentric Droid and is its first mass-produced mobility robot platform. (hyundaimotorgroup.com) The machine is built to keep its top deck level while the wheels move over uneven ground, the same basic idea as a camera stabilizer keeping a shot steady. Hyundai says MobED uses an eccentric posture-control mechanism, independent four-wheel steering, and Drive-and-Lift modules to stay balanced and maneuver in tight spaces. (robotics.hyundai.com) For navigation, Hyundai says MobED combines artificial intelligence with LiDAR and camera sensors so it can detect obstacles and move on its own. The company presented that package as “Intuitive Autonomy,” alongside “Adaptive Mobility” hardware and a wider push for multiple use cases on one base. (hyundaimotorgroup.com) Hyundai is pitching MobED as a modular system rather than a single-purpose robot. Its mounting rail system and top module port are designed so companies can add different payloads for delivery, patrol, filming, research, and other site-specific jobs without replacing the underlying platform. (robotics.hyundai.com) That matters in factories, warehouses, and large worksites where companies often buy separate machines for separate tasks. Hyundai says one MobED base can operate indoors and outdoors and switch roles by changing the upper module, which the company says can cut complexity and cost. (robotics.hyundai.com) Hyundai tied the latest rollout to actual sales plans. The company said at iREX 2025 that MobED Pro and MobED Basic were scheduled to go on sale in the first half of 2026. (robotics.hyundai.com) The platform has also picked up industry recognition since that Tokyo debut. Hyundai Motor Company said on January 4, 2026, that MobED won the Best of Innovation award in the Robotics category at Consumer Electronics Show 2026, the first time the automaker received a Best of Innovation honor there. (hyundaimotorgroup.com) Hyundai’s public message is that MobED extends the company’s vehicle engineering into robotics, with the same focus on moving people or goods smoothly over real-world surfaces. After four years of development from a 2022 concept to a 2025 production model, the company is now treating the platform less like a showpiece and more like equipment it expects customers to buy.
