Xiaomi Debuts 1,900 HP Hypercar
Xiaomi unveiled the Vision GT, a 1,900 horsepower futuristic electric hypercar concept with droplet aerodynamics at MWC2026. The wind-sculpted body features air-cutouts for aerodynamic efficiency, signaling Xiaomi's growing ambitions in the hypercar space — though it's not headed for production.
The Xiaomi Vision GT is the first-ever Vision Gran Turismo concept from a Chinese manufacturer, created for the Gran Turismo 7 racing game. The project was born after the game's creator, Kazunori Yamauchi, personally tested a Xiaomi vehicle, leading to a collaboration. The design, led by Xiaomi's head of design Li Tianyuan, follows a "less is more" philosophy where nearly every element serves an aerodynamic function. This digital-first hypercar is a strategic move for Xiaomi, signaling its ambitions on the global stage as it prepares for an overseas launch in 2027. By debuting the concept at MWC Barcelona, Europe's largest tech conference, Xiaomi is directly targeting the European market and showcasing its ability to compete with established performance brands. The Vision GT builds on the real-world success of Xiaomi's first production car, the SU7. In 2025, Xiaomi delivered 258,164 units of the SU7 in China, outselling the Tesla Model 3's 200,361 units in the same market. This rapid success contributed to Xiaomi's automotive division achieving its first quarterly profit in late 2025, a milestone reached just 19 months after its first vehicle launch. The company's automotive and AI division generated 29 billion yuan (about $4.1 billion USD) in revenue in the third quarter of 2025 alone. Building on this momentum, Xiaomi surpassed its initial 2025 delivery target of 350,000 vehicles and has set an ambitious goal of 550,000 deliveries for 2026. Xiaomi's rapid and profitable entry into the automotive world stands in stark contrast to other tech giants. Apple, for instance, famously abandoned its decade-long, $10 billion electric car project. Meanwhile, Xiaomi has successfully leveraged its massive user base and ecosystem strategy to quickly scale production, having produced over 500,000 vehicles within the first 19 months. The hypercar concept also draws from the technology developed for its high-performance production models. The SU7 Ultra, a 1,548-horsepower sedan, has already made its mark by setting a Nürburgring production EV lap record. This demonstrates that Xiaomi's high-performance claims for concepts like the Vision GT are backed by proven engineering.
