Bam Joins Heat's 10K Club
Bam Adebayo made Miami Heat history by joining Dwyane Wade as the only players to reach 10,000 career points with the franchise. The originally defense-first player has evolved into a true two-way threat and now sits at No. 413 on the NBA's all-time scoring list.
Adebayo's journey to 10,000 points showcases a significant offensive evolution. In his 2017-18 rookie season, he averaged just 6.9 points per game, followed by 8.9 in his second year. Contrast that with the last six seasons, where he has maintained an average of at least 18 points per game. This milestone places Adebayo in elite company, but he still has a long way to go to catch Dwyane Wade, who is the franchise's all-time leading scorer with 21,556 points. Wade reached the 10,000-point mark for the Heat on November 2, 2009. Before Adebayo's ascent, the top of the Heat's scoring list was dominated by stars of different eras. Alonzo Mourning, the franchise's first player to have his jersey retired, stands as a two-time Defensive Player of the Year and led the league in blocks twice. Glen Rice, another Heat legend, was known for his sharpshooting. He held the franchise's single-game scoring record with 56 points, a mark that stood until 2014. While celebrating this scoring achievement, Adebayo is also closing in on another significant franchise record. He recently surpassed Udonis Haslem to become the Heat's all-time defensive rebounding leader and is now chasing Haslem's overall franchise rebounding record.
