TECNO to Unveil AI-Powered Phones
Phone brand TECNO is set to unveil its new flagship CAMON 50 smartphone series at MWC 2026 in Barcelona. The launch will focus on new imaging capabilities and a broader ecosystem of AI-driven products.
TECNO's focus on artificial intelligence in its CAMON series is part of a broader company strategy called "Practical AI," which was introduced in 2024. This framework guides the development of features for emerging markets, focusing on accessible creative tools and productivity enhancements. In 2025 alone, TECNO processed over 500 million user requests through its AI, with a significant portion being image-related tasks in non-English languages. The CAMON line, first launched in 2015, has consistently centered on camera technology, aiming to deliver professional-grade imaging in the mid-range market. This strategy of packing high-performance cameras into affordable phones proved successful, helping TECNO gain a strong foothold in markets across Africa, Latin America, and Southeast Asia. The series is considered a symbol of the company's evolution in the smartphone business. Parent company Transsion Holdings utilizes a multi-brand strategy, with TECNO targeting the low-to-mid-end market, while its other brands, Infinix and Itel, cater to different price segments. This approach has been highly effective, particularly in Africa, where Transsion held over 40% of the smartphone market in 2024. The company's core strategy involves deep localization, adapting products and marketing to specific cultural and consumer needs in each region. The push into AI-powered imaging comes as competition intensifies in emerging markets from global players like Samsung and Xiaomi. Major smartphone brands are increasingly leveraging AI to improve camera performance, with Google's Pixel series known for its AI-driven photography and Samsung using AI for camera and battery optimization. TECNO's investment in AI is a strategic move to differentiate its products and move up the value chain. Beyond the CAMON 50 series, TECNO's MWC 2026 presence includes a wider ecosystem of AI-connected devices. This includes the MEGABOOK laptop portfolio and AI-enhanced smart wearables, all linked through a cross-device solution called OneLeap. The company is also set to announce a strategic partnership with Tonino Lamborghini, which will involve co-created devices.
