Andy Weir (The Martian) is writing a new standalone sci-fi novel—his first since Project Hail Mary [https://x.com/i/status/2031507428789924255] — stranding another protagonist in a fresh problem.
The new book is called "Mushroom Cloud," and Weir has been working on it for a while. It involves a scientist tasked with detonating nuclear bombs on the moon. Weir has said he initially struggled with the science of this plot, particularly how to make it scientifically plausible. The protagonist will be a woman, a departure from Weir's previous male leads.
