Bali Beach Bar Scene Gets Fresh Recommendations

New recommendations highlight southern Kuta/Uluwatu beaches like Dreamland and Melasti paired with bar hops at Single Fin, Motel Mexicola, and Times Beach. The combo offers the perfect blend of laid-back beach vibes with Bali's signature nightlife energy.

Dreamland Beach, once a secluded cove for surfers, got its name from a large, unfinished resort project in the 1990s. Now also called New Kuta Beach, it's framed by dramatic limestone cliffs and is known for powerful waves that attract intermediate and advanced surfers. Nearby Melasti Beach has been transformed by massive infrastructure projects that carved roads through its towering cliffs, making it far more accessible. An offshore reef creates a calm, clear lagoon perfect for swimming, a contrast to the area's many surf-heavy beaches. This accessibility and beauty drew over a million visitors by September 2023 alone. Perched above the legendary Uluwatu surf break, Single Fin opened in 2008 and pioneered the "Sunday Session" party concept in Bali. The bar offers panoramic views of the very waves that put Uluwatu on the global map after the 1971 surf film "Morning of the Earth." Motel Mexicola brings a vibrant, hand-painted aesthetic inspired by different regions of Mexico to its locations in Seminyak and Canggu. The venue is known for transforming from a restaurant into a high-energy party spot where guests often end up dancing on the tables. For a more laid-back vibe, Times Beach Warung on Canggu's Batu Bolong Beach provides a "wallet-friendly" alternative to upscale beach clubs. It maintains a casual atmosphere with bean bags on the sand, attracting a mix of local surfers and tourists without a minimum spend.
