LA County Library is running National Library Week programs across its branches through Saturday, April 25, with events for children, teens, and adults. (lacountylibrary.org) The library system said the week’s lineup includes book discussions, author talks, art workshops, mindfulness sessions, teen programs, and family story events at locations across Los Angeles County. Featured programs listed by the library include a Tuesday discussion of *They Called Us Enemy* and a Wednesday virtual talk with author Miranda Cowley Heller. (lacountylibrary.org) Other highlighted events include a Japanese American watercolor program on Wednesday, a Thursday book-and-art session tied to *How To Be a Good Creature*, a Friday “Tea for the Soul” workshop, and a Saturday visit from performer Ms. Bits N Bobs. LA County Library said the programs are designed to help residents “explore, create, and connect.” (lacountylibrary.org) National Library Week itself runs from April 19 to April 25 in 2026, according to the American Library Association, which has sponsored the observance since 1958. This year’s national theme is “Find Your Joy,” with librarian and author Mychal Threets serving as honorary chair. (ala.org) LA County Library is tying its local schedule to that national campaign. On its National Library Week page, the system says libraries are “spaces for connection, creativity, and lifelong learning” and is directing residents to browse branch calendars for programs countywide. (lacountylibrary.org) The branch listings show how broad that schedule is. On April 20 alone, the public events calendar included programs such as Guided Autobiography at La Crescenta Library, storytimes at Hollydale and Topanga, an art activity for adults with developmental differences at East Rancho Dominguez, and a sustainability-themed craft at South Whittier. (lacountylibrary.org) Some National Library Week events were already full by midweek. The library’s event page marked Charter Oak Library’s April 21 arts-and-crafts program for children ages 3 to 5 as full with a wait list, while Lomita Library’s April 22 “Planting Joy” program for ages 6 to 12 remained open for registration. (lacountylibrary.org) County Librarian and Director Skye Patrick said the week is meant to showcase everyday library use, from borrowing books and attending events to using free Wi‑Fi and finding a quiet place to read. The remaining programs run through April 25 on branch schedules posted by LA County Library. (lacountylibrary.org)
