London Tube Strike Warnings

Travel guidance warns that London will face multiple Tube strikes across spring and summer 2026, with expectations of longer waits and overcrowded surface alternatives. The advisory frames the strikes as a likely cause of disruption for both daily commuters and visitors during peak weeks. (travelandtourworld.com)

London’s Underground is facing six planned driver strikes between April 21 and June 19, with Transport for London warning of network-wide disruption on every strike day. (tfl.gov.uk) Transport for London says the walkouts are scheduled for April 21-22, April 23-24, May 19-20, May 21-22, June 16-17 and June 18-19. Each strike runs from 12:00 midday to 12:00 midday the next day, and disruption is expected to spill into the afternoons and evenings. (tfl.gov.uk) The agency expects reduced service on most lines across the whole Tube network. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, service should be normal until mid-morning before ramping down late morning, then face significant disruption after midday; on Wednesdays and Fridays, disruption should remain heavy until midday before recovery later in the day. (tfl.gov.uk) The dispute is about a four-day week for Tube drivers. The Rail, Maritime and Transport union said on March 10 that it was calling strike action over what it described as an “imposed” compressed four-day working week on London Underground. (rmt.org.uk) That fight grew out of a deal accepted by another drivers’ union a year earlier. ASLEF said on April 10, 2025 that its London Underground members had voted for a proposal that would move drivers to 34-hour rosters, with a paid meal break, an extra day off each week and 4.5 fewer hours at work each week. (aslef.org.uk) The March strikes first announced for March 24-27 did not go ahead. RMT said on March 18 that it had suspended those walkouts after what it called progress in talks with London Underground management, but added that the dispute was “far from over.” (rmt.org.uk) Transport for London says the impact this spring should be lighter than the Tube strikes in September 2025, but it is still telling passengers to plan ahead, check before they travel and use alternative routes where possible. It says the Elizabeth line, Docklands Light Railway, London Overground and trams should run normally on Tube strike days. (tfl.gov.uk) Surface travel will not be trouble-free. Transport for London says the “vast majority” of buses will run normally, but seven Stagecoach routes from Bow garage are also facing separate strike action on April 17-18, April 24-25 and May 15-16, with routes 8, 25, 205, 425, N8, N25 and N205 affected. (tfl.gov.uk) For commuters and visitors, the key dates now run from late April into mid-June, not all summer. The official advice from Transport for London is simple: check live service updates before you leave and expect the busiest alternative routes to fill up fast. (tfl.gov.uk)
