MTG Arena Gets TMNT Crossover
Magic: The Gathering Arena will feature a special Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles crossover event. Wizards of the Coast released the event schedule, offering new digital cards, challenges, and themed rewards for players logging in during March.
This crossover is part of Magic's "Universes Beyond" series, which incorporates external franchises into the game's multiverse. Past collaborations have included major properties like The Lord of the Rings, Warhammer 40,000, Doctor Who, and Fallout. Upcoming crossovers will feature characters from Marvel, The Hobbit, and Star Trek. The collaboration extends beyond digital cards, with a full tabletop release on March 6, 2026. This includes a "Turtle Team-Up" cooperative game where up to four players can battle against an enemy deck featuring 11 bosses, including Shredder. There are also themed bundles available, such as a "Pizza Bundle" that comes with special "Pizza Lands" and other exclusive items. The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles set introduces new mechanics to *Magic: The Gathering*. One new keyword is "Sneak," a variation of the existing Ninjutsu mechanic that allows a player to swap an unblocked attacking creature with a card from their hand by paying its Sneak cost. The set also features "Mutagen tokens," which can be sacrificed to give a creature a +1/+1 counter, and food tokens are represented by pizzas. The design of the set delves deep into the history of the TMNT franchise, featuring characters and references from various comics, shows, and movies. This includes not only the four turtles and their iconic allies and villains but also more obscure characters like Venus from the live-action series and Madame Null from the IDW comics. The Ninja Turtles are no strangers to gaming crossovers, having previously appeared in titles like *Street Fighter 6* and the MOBA *Smite*. Their appearance in *MTG Arena* is part of a broader trend of the characters featuring in diverse gaming universes, from fighting games to mythological battlegrounds.
