Jon Jones White House Fight Still Uncertain
Jon Jones confirmed he's "still in talks" to fight at the planned UFC White House event, though trust issues and ongoing negotiations with UFC leadership mean nothing is final yet. The former two-division champ's participation remains uncertain despite the historic nature of the proposed venue.
The proposed UFC event is scheduled to take place on the South Lawn of the White House on June 14, 2026. The date was announced by former President Donald Trump and coincides with his 80th birthday, as well as the Flag Day holiday. This would mark the first time a professional sporting event has ever been staged at the presidential residence. While championship teams have visited the White House since 1865, this live fight card is an unprecedented use of the grounds. Jon Jones last fought in November 2024, when he defeated Stipe Miocic via TKO to defend the heavyweight title at UFC 309. He later announced his retirement in June 2025 after negotiations for a bout with Tom Aspinall fell apart, only to re-enter the testing pool after the White House event was announced. The "trust issues" stem from UFC CEO Dana White's public hesitancy to book Jones for the landmark event. White has stated he needs fighters he can "absolutely count on" and noted that Jones had recently pulled out of a deal for a different fight. Speculation for Jones's potential opponent has centered on Alex Pereira. The rumors intensified after Pereira recently vacated the UFC light-heavyweight championship, seemingly clearing a path for a move to the heavyweight division.
