Texas Tech Sweeps Big 12 Indoor Track
Texas Tech claimed both men's and women's titles at the 2026 Big 12 Indoor Track and Field Championships, setting multiple new conference records in the process. The dominant performance positions Tech as a serious national contender heading into the NCAA Indoor Championships later this month.
The Red Raider men's fourth consecutive Big 12 indoor title was a dramatic, down-to-the-wire victory. They edged out Kansas State by a single point, 125-124, making it one of the tightest finishes in recent championship history. The women secured their second-straight title with 114.5 points, holding off a strong challenge from BYU, who finished with 110 points. This marks the second consecutive year that Texas Tech has swept both the men's and women's indoor conference championships. The men's team has become only the second program in Big 12 history to win four straight indoor titles, joining a Nebraska dynasty from 2000-2005. Junior Malachi Snow was the high-point scorer for the men, single-handedly contributing 20 points with victories in both the 60-meter dash and the 60-meter hurdles. His 6.46-second time in the 60-meters and 7.43-second mark in the hurdles were both new Big 12 meet records. In the field, Jonathan Seremes established himself as a national favorite with a massive triple jump of 16.96 meters. The leap not only set a new Big 12 meet record but also stands as the best in the NCAA this season. For the women, Tonie-Ann Forbes captured her first Big 12 title in the 60-meter hurdles with a school-record time of 7.91 seconds, while senior Ruta Lasmane won the triple jump. The dominant performance wasn't entirely expected based on pre-meet rankings. Heading into the championships, the Texas Tech men were ranked No. 12 in the nation, while the women's team was ranked No. 8. With the conference sweep secured, the Red Raiders now turn their attention to the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships. The national meet will take place from March 13-14 in Fayetteville, Arkansas, where Texas Tech will look to translate its Big 12 dominance into national titles.
