Timber Pizza Co. to Expand into Virginia
The wood-fired pizza chain Timber Pizza Co. announced plans to open two new locations in Virginia. The expansion is part of a broader regional growth strategy for the company. Specific locations and opening dates for the new restaurants have not yet been disclosed.
- The company was founded in 2014 by Chris Brady and Andrew Dana, two former tech executives, who started by selling pizzas from a 1967 Chevy pickup truck with a mobile wood-fired oven at local markets and breweries. - In 2015, Culinary Institute of America graduate Dani Moreira joined the team as executive chef, elevating the menu beyond traditional pizza offerings. The trio opened their first brick-and-mortar location in the Petworth neighborhood of Washington, D.C., in 2016. - Timber Pizza Co. has received national recognition, including being named a "Pizzeria of the Year" by Bon Appétit and receiving a Michelin Bib Gourmand award for five consecutive years. - The brand has already established a presence in Northern Virginia with locations in McLean, Ballston, and at Reagan National Airport. Deals for new locations in Alexandria and Richmond have also been in development. - The expansion is part of a larger franchising strategy spearheaded by CEO Luke Watson, who acquired the brand in 2022. The company has opened six franchise locations in just over a year, including in North and South Carolina. - Their menu features "Neapolitan-ish" style pizzas with unique toppings, such as "The Bentley," which includes chorizo, soppressata, Peruvian sweet peppers, and spicy honey. They also offer empanadas and fresh salads. - The pizzas are cooked in a Marra Forni oven at 650 degrees, which creates their signature chewy and charred crust. - In addition to their restaurants, Timber Pizza Co. continues to operate a mobile catering business with four food trucks.
