*Final Fantasy VII Rebirth* currently holds a Metacritic score of 93, making it one of the highest-rated games in the series' history and fulfilling a personal goal of director Naoki Hamaguchi to surpass a score of 90. This score is higher than its predecessor, *Final Fantasy VII Remake*, which sits at an 87. The game is the second installment in a planned trilogy that reimagines the original 1997 *Final Fantasy VII*. Development on the third and final part of the saga is already underway, with the main story script reportedly completed by the end of 2024 and the project tracking on schedule. Upon its PlayStation 5 release in February 2024, Square Enix president Takashi Kiryu stated that the game's sales fell below expectations. However, the game saw a significant sales boost following its release on PC in January 2025, climbing to the third spot on U.S. sales charts for that month.
