NYC AI Hiring Platform Elly Raises $8M

Elly, an AI-native hiring platform based in NYC, has raised an $8M seed round led by Sorenson Capital. The funding highlights continued investor interest in AI-powered tools that are disrupting core business functions like recruiting.

The $8M seed round for Elly was not just led by Sorenson Capital; venture firms Atomic and Next Wave Capital also participated. The investment places Sorenson Capital partner Rob Rueckert, who previously spent 15 years at Intel Capital, on Elly's board of directors. Elly is led by CEO Kristen Habacht, who has a track record of scaling major tech products, with previous senior executive experience at Atlassian, Trello, Typeform, and Shogun. Her co-founder, Nic Mahaney, is leading product development for the AI-native platform. The company aims to solve the fragmentation of recruiting tools, where talent teams often juggle five or more disconnected platforms for sourcing, interviewing, and tracking applicants. Elly's platform is designed to unify these functions, interpreting unstructured interview conversations and feedback to reduce manual data entry. Early customers report significant time savings, including up to 1 hour and 45 minutes per candidate on interview documentation and 5 to 10 hours saved weekly by replacing live screening calls with targeted interview reviews. The platform is already in use across industries like tech, healthcare, and manufacturing. The investment taps into the rapidly growing AI recruitment market, which was valued at over $617 million in 2024 and is projected to reach over $920 million by 2031. This growth is fueled by the increasing need for automation to handle high volumes of job applications and to improve hiring efficiency. This funding highlights the strength of NYC's tech ecosystem, which now includes over 2,000 AI startups and 40,000 AI professionals. The city's access to major enterprise clients in finance, media, and healthcare is a key driver of its surge in AI-related venture funding. The most in-demand roles at these startups include Machine Learning Engineers and Data Scientists with experience in LLMs and Python.
