Indian Wells Sees Upsets, Top Players Advance

The BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells witnessed upsets like Fonseca's win over Paul, while Djokovic and Alcaraz advanced, setting the stage for a potentially thrilling tournament.

Brazilian teenager Joao Fonseca's dominant victory over Tommy Paul marks his first time reaching the last 16 of a Masters 1000 event. The 19-year-old won against Paul in straight sets 6-2, 6-3. Fonseca is the first Brazilian to reach this stage at Indian Wells since 2012. Novak Djokovic admitted to managing a forearm issue over the last couple of weeks. Despite the challenge, Djokovic battled through to reach the fourth round, overcoming Aleksandar Kovacevic 6-4, 1-6, 6-4. Djokovic also played golf with Carlos Alcaraz and Alexander Zverev. Carlos Alcaraz faced a tough match against Arthur Rinderknech but ultimately prevailed, winning 6-7(6), 6-3, 6-2. Alcaraz rolled his ankle during the match but continued to play. He is aiming for his third straight Indian Wells title. Other upsets include Camila Osorio's win over Iva Jovic, Sonay Kartal's victory over Emma Navarro, and Antonia Ruzic's defeat of Qinwen Zheng. Arthur Fils defeated Felix Auger-Aliassime to reach the quarterfinals. Katerina Siniakova upset defending champion Mirra Andreeva.
