Dubai Opens Traffic-Relief Bridges
Dubai inaugurated two new bridges at Al Khail-Al Meydan Streets and Al Jaddaf to ease traffic congestion. The infrastructure upgrades are part of Dubai's broader urban development strategy to reinforce its status as a modern, livable city attractive to investors and expatriates.
The two newly opened bridges are key components of the broader AED 700 million Al Khail Road Improvement Project. This strategic initiative is designed to enhance seven key locations along the busy corridor, ultimately cutting travel times by up to 30% and boosting the road's overall capacity by nearly 19,600 vehicles per hour. The new Meydan bridge is a 610-meter, two-lane structure built to handle 3,200 vehicles per hour. It specifically serves to connect traffic flowing from Al Meydan Street directly onto Al Khail Road in the direction of Deira, bypassing previous points of congestion. At the Al Jaddaf site, the project involved surface road widening and the addition of a new lane. This enhancement is set to improve traffic flow towards Deira and increases the road's capacity by an estimated 2,000 vehicles per hour in the segment between the Oud Metha Street and Financial Centre Street intersections. These upgrades are part of a multi-site overhaul of Al Khail Road, a critical artery that runs parallel to Sheikh Zayed Road. Other areas targeted in the comprehensive project include Zaa'beel, Al Quoz 1, and Jumeirah Village Circle, ensuring a more continuous and efficient traffic flow across the city.
