Russia Feeding Iran Intel on US Troops
Russia is actively providing Iran with sensitive targeting data on U.S. military deployments in the Middle East, according to multiple intelligence sources. The shared intel reportedly includes real-time locations of American warships, aircraft, and ground forces, dramatically raising the risk of a precise Iranian strike on U.S. assets.
This intelligence sharing is seen by some U.S. officials as retaliation for Washington's military support for Ukraine. The military cooperation between Moscow and Tehran has expanded significantly since Russia's 2022 invasion of Ukraine, with Iran previously supplying Russia with Shahed attack drones. This new development marks the first known instance of Russia indirectly aiding Iran in the current conflict. The United States has recently executed its largest military buildup in the Middle East since 2003, deploying significant air and naval assets. This includes at least one aircraft carrier strike group, and potentially a second, bringing thousands of additional service members to the region. Over 40,000 U.S. soldiers are currently deployed across 10 countries in the Middle East. Analysts suggest the sophistication of recent Iranian strikes on U.S. command and control infrastructure and radar systems points to the value of Russia's intelligence support. Iran, which has a limited number of military satellites, benefits significantly from Russia's more advanced intelligence-gathering capabilities. White House officials have downplayed the impact of the Russian intelligence sharing, stating that the U.S. is "completely decimating" Iranian forces and that the aid is not making a difference in military operations. However, some lawmakers have expressed serious concern, with one stating, "Make no mistake: Russia is targeting Americans in the Middle East, Ukraine, and around the world."
