Fornasetti and Cc-Tapis Unveil Artisan Rug Collection
Italian design house Fornasetti and luxury rug maker Cc-Tapis have partnered on a new collection of hand-knotted rugs, which was launched at the Milan Design Fair. The collaboration merges Fornasetti's signature surrealist motifs with Cc-Tapis's artisanal craftsmanship. The pieces are positioned as functional floor art, reflecting a trend toward collectible, limited-edition design collaborations.
- The collection features two main designs: "Il Trovatore," showcasing a face with a theatrical, harlequin-inspired pattern, and "Libri," which depicts a surreal arrangement of books. - Each rug is hand-knotted by Tibetan artisans in Cc-Tapis's atelier in Nepal, a process that can take 14 to 17 weeks to complete. - The primary material used is Himalayan wool, known for its durability due to a high lanolin content, which also makes it naturally stain-resistant. - Cc-Tapis employs an eco-friendly production process, which includes using purified rainwater to wash the completed rugs. - The hand-knotting technique allows for a density of up to 232,000 knots per square meter, enabling the detailed translation of Fornasetti's intricate, surrealist imagery. - This collaboration is part of a broader trend in the high-end design market where rare, often limited-edition, artistic pieces are increasingly sought after by collectors. - The launch at the Milan Design Fair, a premier global event for the design industry, positions the collection within the highest echelons of interior design. - Barnaba Fornasetti, Piero Fornasetti's son and the brand's artistic director, continues to explore his father's extensive archive for collaborations, reinterpreting iconic designs for a contemporary audience.
