Mercedes-Benz has taken the C-Class electric, turning one of its core sedans into a battery-powered model with a claimed 762-kilometer range. (mercedes-benz.com) The company unveiled the all-new electric C-Class in Seoul on April 20, 2026, its first global world premiere in South Korea. Mercedes-Benz Group chairman Ola Källenius attended the launch with other senior executives, and about 80 international journalists flew in for the event. (koreatimes.co.kr) Mercedes says the sedan uses an 800-volt electrical system, can add up to 325 kilometers of range in 10 minutes, and will offer up to 330 kilowatts of DC fast charging with a 94-kilowatt-hour battery. The U.S. site lists 482 horsepower for the C 400 4MATIC version, a 0-60 mph time of 3.9 seconds, and availability at dealerships next year. (mbusa.com) Inside, the car offers an available 39.1-inch Mercedes‑Benz User Experience Hyperscreen and runs the new Mercedes-Benz Operating System, or MB.OS. Mercedes says the software ties together infotainment, charging, driver assistance and personalization features in one system. (mbusa.com) The move puts Mercedes’ best-known compact executive sedan into the same electric fight that now includes BMW’s new i3. Autocar reported April 20 that Mercedes positions the C-Class EV as a direct answer to BMW’s latest electric 3 Series rival. (autocar.co.uk) Mercedes is also changing how its electric cars look. The electric C-Class is built to resemble the gasoline C-Class more closely than the older EQE and EQS sedans, which had more distinct cab-forward shapes. (autocar.co.uk) That design shift follows Mercedes’ broader rethink of its smaller EV lineup. At IAA Mobility in September 2023, the company used the Concept CLA Class to introduce a new generation of electric architecture, MB.OS software and long-range efficiency for entry and mid-range Mercedes models. (group.mercedes-benz.com) The screen-heavy cabin also extends a Mercedes playbook that started higher up the range. Mercedes introduced the MBUX Hyperscreen in 2021 as a dashboard-wide curved glass display with artificial intelligence features and a separate passenger display. (group.mercedes-benz.com) In the U.S., Mercedes is already pitching the electric C-Class as a future vehicle rather than a concept. The company’s American site says the sedan is coming to dealerships next year, which would turn the C-Class badge into Mercedes’ next big test of whether traditional luxury-sedan buyers will follow a familiar nameplate into the electric era.
