Free Reggae Concert in SF's Golden Gate Park

Crucial Reggae Sundays, a free and all-ages live music event, is taking place today, March 8, at the Golden Gate Bandshell. The event, starting at 4:30 PM, offers a community gathering to celebrate reggae music.

The concert takes place at the historic Golden Gate Bandshell, a structure gifted to the city in 1900 by sugar magnate Claus Spreckels. Also known as the Spreckels Temple of Music, it is the oldest building in the park's Music Concourse. This free concert series is produced by Illuminate LIVE, in partnership with the San Francisco Recreation and Park Department. Illuminate is a nonprofit organization known for large-scale public art installations, including The Bay Lights. Since 2020, Illuminate has presented over 700 free concerts at the bandshell, attracting nearly a million people. The venue was renovated in 2020 with state-of-the-art sound and lighting to support this ongoing mission of providing free public performances. Crucial Reggae Sundays is a recurring event hosted by resident selectors Irie Dole of Jah Warrior Shelter Hi-Fi, Guidance of Infinite Guidance Sound, and DJ Sep of Dub Mission. The series regularly features special guest DJs and live performances. The event is part of a larger schedule of free programming at the bandshell, which includes Singer-Songwriter Wednesdays and Friday Happy Hour events throughout the week. This year's series will feature more than 125 free performances in total.
