Victorinox and JBS USA Announce Strategic Partnership

Victorinox, the maker of the Swiss Army Knife, and JBS USA, a major food processor, have formed a strategic partnership. The two industry leaders will collaborate to advance operational performance and optimize yield, uniting expertise from precision tool manufacturing and large-scale food production.

This direct purchasing relationship will integrate Victorinox's tools into JBS USA's operations, which include over 400 production units and a workforce of more than 245,000. The collaboration aims to enhance plant-level support and streamline the supply chain for the largest protein producer in the world. The partnership will focus on co-developing new products tailored to the specific needs of modern food processing. This initiative comes as JBS is already investing significantly in operational upgrades, including a $200 million investment in its U.S. beef facilities and a global modernization of its systems with SAP S/4HANA. A key area of focus will be yield optimization, a critical factor in the profitability of meat processing. Even small improvements in cutting and deboning can lead to significant financial gains and waste reduction. The U.S. beef industry, for instance, loses an estimated $3.73 billion annually due to discoloration alone, highlighting the economic stakes of processing efficiency. Victorinox is expected to bring its expertise in high-performance, ergonomic knives that are designed for durability and precision in demanding environments. Their professional-grade knives are crafted to reduce user fatigue and improve safety, which are crucial factors in the labor-intensive meat processing industry. A recent innovation from Victorinox that could be leveraged in this partnership is the introduction of DataMatrix-Code (DMC) commercial knives. These knives feature laser-engraved codes for enhanced traceability, allowing for meticulous tracking of usage, cleaning cycles, and maintenance history, which can lead to increased productivity and yield. This collaboration aligns with JBS's long-term sustainability goals, which include a commitment to achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2040. By improving yield and reducing waste through more efficient processing, the partnership can contribute to a more sustainable food supply chain.
